🌟 History & Significance
Founder: Gadisar Lake was originally built in the 14th century by Maharawal Gadsi Singh, the then ruler of Jaisalmer.
Purpose: It served as the main water conservation reservoir for the entire city before modern pipelines existed.
Over the centuries, it became not only a lifeline for Jaisalmer’s people but also a spiritual and cultural hub.
🏛️ Architecture & Surroundings
The lake is surrounded by beautifully carved chhatris (cenotaphs), temples, and ghats, reflecting traditional Rajasthani architecture.
The most iconic entry point is the Tilon-ki-Pol Gate, an intricately carved sandstone archway, which adds royal charm to the lake’s surroundings.
The calm waters mirror the golden monuments, creating a picture-perfect sight, especially at sunrise and sunset.
